Jamie Travelstead, the main character of Light Journey, struggles in this inspiring and moving story, to learn of her vocation to fulfill these words:
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.
(Matthew 5: 14-16)
Jamie begins in the novel as a young teenager who has a vivid imagination. She fancies herself as an orchestral conductor as she plays in her favorite tree, Timberwood, and dreams of a handsome prince who will fall for her.
Instead, she falls from her oak tree into the arms of a real prince, Griff. Together they embark on an incredible journey into the Light and being light for others. This playful, imaginative, spunky, intelligent, talented, flirtatious young teen grows into a beautiful, courageous, physically strong, defensive and offensive fencing adeptness, and highly educated young woman with great artistic skills and musicality. Moving from horrific loss and grief to a person who is a champion for good, light, the downtrodden, Jamie inspires all of us into a more self-sacrificing way of life - a life lived for others, a life of great passion and love.
